But given that there are now over 1 billion users active on the social media giant every day, a Facebook Business Page is now a vital way of reaching the right audience.

Creating Your Facebook Business Page
To get your Facebook Business Page started first you will need a personal Facebook profile. This profile becomes an administrator for the page. Don’t stress too much if you are worried about linking it to your personal account. No information is shared from your business profile and you can easily reassign the page ownership to other users later on if you need.
Hot Tip: Some people we have worked with in the past use a generic profile as the administrator on the account. They then pass out the log-in details to anyone they want to access to their business page. We strongly recommend that you do not use this method as there are multiple issues surrounding this including security, post auditing and ownership issues. Instead, anyone who has liked or follows your business page can be added to your page with various levels of authority. To learn more about this read this article: How do I manage roles for my page?
For the basics, we’re going to use Jasper’s Market, a brick-and-mortar store, as our sample business (it’s actually a real business).
To create a Facebook Business Page from your personal account, select the arrow in the top-right corner, and then select Create Page from the drop-down menu.
Choosing a Business Category
Here we’ll go through the steps for choosing the category that most closely reflects your business. Depending on your choice, you’ll be asked for a few details before you can create a Page.
Click the Get Started button in the category that best describes your business:
- Business or Brand
- Community or Public Figure
Jasper’s Market is a Local Business in the USA, so we chose the Business or Brand category.
Next, you’ll name your Facebook Business Page. All you need to do here is add the name of your business.
Second, add a category to describe your Page. Type a word or two into the text box that best describes your type of business and select a category from the options. If you don’t see your business type, try using different keywords to search. You can change the category and name of your organization later, if you need to.
Next, fill out your business address and phone number. If you don’t want your business address visible, select the box that says Don’t show my address. When you’re done, click Continue.
Adding profile pictures and cover photos or videos
Adding a profile picture to your Facebook Business Page can help more people find your Page, and they’ll also be able to recognize it in posts, comments and more. If you have a logo, use it for your profile picture.
Click Upload a Profile Picture
You’ll be to edit your profile picture here by dragging it to a new position, increasing or decreasing the size, as well as by cropping it.
Add a Cover
Next, add a cover to help express your Facebook Business Page identity. This can be done either through a photo or a video:
You can either upload a photo from your computer, or choose from a current Facebook Business Page album.
If you want to make sure nothing is cropped out of your image after uploading it, we recommend using an image that is sized 828 X 315 pixels.
To create a more engaging interaction and a rich experience for your Facebook Business Page audience, add a cover video instead of a photo. This can also help you spotlight your creative content in one of the most prominent spaces on your Facebook Business Page.
Here are the steps:
- Go to your Page
- Click Add a Cover in the top left of your cover photo or video
- Select Upload Photo/Video to upload a video from your computer. Cover videos should be at least 820 x 312 pixels and between 20 and 90 seconds long
- Select the video from either your computer or your existing videos
- After the video has uploaded, reposition the video by clicking it and dragging it up or down, then click Next
- Click the arrows to scroll through up to 10 thumbnail options for your cover video. The thumbnail image may be used when someone hovers over your Page’s name to get more context about your Page
- Click Publish and your video will render
If you decide to remove your Facebook Business cover video at a later date, it won’t be deleted automatically, but will still be available in your Page’s video library.
That’s how you create a Page. Now let’s talk about how to add your Page details.
Share more about your business
Add a short description
The section is optional, but we recommend filling it out so that people know what your business is about. It also helps your business appear in search results when people look for you online.
This field has a 155-character limit, so add the most important information here (like your business location and what makes it valuable to customers).
When you’re finished, click Save.
Create a Page username
Add a username by clicking Create a Username for your Facebook Business Page. When you create a username, it appears in custom URLs that help people find, remember and message your Page.
People will also be able to tag you in future posts or events.
Add additional information
To add more information (like website, email address and location map) click See More, then click About. You can also add additional details to your Facebook Business Page (like business categories, parking information, price ranges, menus, team members and more).
Remember, the more information you enter, the easier it will be for people to find you!
To further customize your Facebook Business Page with templates and tabs, click Settings in the top right. Then, choose Edit Page.
Add a call-to-action button
Encourage people to take the action you want them to take when they reach your Facebook Business Page by adding a call-to-action (CTA) button. The CTA button is featured prominently at the top of the Page beneath your cover photo. It can help drive a range of different actions to align with your business goals, including sending a message, booking an appointment, making a purchase and more.
To add a CTA button to your Page:
- Click Add a Button under your Cover Photo
- Select one of the available options and fill out any required information. For this example, we’ll choose Contact You and then select, Send Message
- Click Next and select where you would like the button to send people, in this case Facebook Messenger.
- When you’re done you need to publish your new Call to Action Button. To do this click Finish. You can change the CTA button label or action at any time.
To test your CTA button:
- Hover over the CTA button
- Select Test Button
- Verify that CTA button is working as you want it to
Your CTA button choices differ depending on your type of business. You can always change your button to reflect the action you’d like people to take when they visit your Facebook Business Page.
As you continue to build your Facebook Business Page, you’ll notice a Page Tips link on the right side of the screen. Page Tips provide quick and easy guidance so you can create more effective posts.
You can let people know when you’re open, send people to your website and more.
When you first create your Facebook Business Page, you may notice you don’t have the option to view Insights or to create an Offer. In order to provide you with Page insights, your audience will need to start engaging with your Page so we can let you know more about them.
As you continue to build your Facebook Business Page’s audience, you’ll gain access to additional tools and features. Here are some other details you should know as you become active on your Page:
After 30 people like your Page, you’ll have access to Page Insights, which features data on how many people have visited your Page, their demographics, which posts performed well and more.
Pages to Watch
Once 100 people Like your Page, you can start “watching” up to 100 Pages. This feature allows you to see how other Pages — including any competing businesses — are performing.
